Friend
If you’ve been the parent of a wayward child, you have some understanding
of Paul’s relationship to the church at Corinth. They not only abandoned his
teachings when he was away, they eventually turned against him - as though he was
their problem. Paul constantly sought to correct his parishioners, but agonized
over the right way to do so.
In our New Testament reading for today, we see Paul’s ambivalence over his
role of providing discipline for the Corinthian church: “For even if I made
you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it-though I did regret it, for I see
that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. As it is, I rejoice, not
because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt
a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us” (2 Corinthians
7:8-9, ESV).
Grief over one’s behavior can be godly, as Paul indicates, and it follows
that prompting that grief can be the godly thing to do. That doesn’t make
it fun; in fact, we should not take joy when we call others on their behavior. It’s
necessary, though, and we dare not shrink away from our responsibility to offer
correction in love.
Here are this week’s announcements - please save or print this email and refer
to it throughout the week.
Today, Wednesday, June 19 - What an incredible time we’ve
had during
Healing School! Elder Bill Canfield taught an incredible lesson in my absence
last week and I am looking forward to being with you tonight! Remember, Healing
School lasts for one hour, and then our leaders will be available to join you in
praying for your wholeness and that of your loved ones.
Kid Harvest 3D, a fast-paced learning experience for children in grades 1-5, also
meets at 7 p.m. Next Harvest Youth Church (grades 6-12) holds its weekly service
at 7 p.m. in the MAC Café.
If you can’t join us in person, the service will be streamed live online from
the tabernacle via
World Harvest Live.
Sunday, June 23 - Join us for worship at 10 a.m. & 7 p.m. God
has been moving mightily in our services, and I am praying that you will make it
a priority to attend both services and bring friends, neighbors, family members
and co-workers with you.
If it’s absolutely impossible for you to join us in person, log on to
World Harvest Live to watch the services in the tabernacle as they happen.
Pre-service prayer begins at 9 a.m. & 6 p.m. in the A-Wing Hospitality Room
(former Breakthrough studio).
Tuesday, June 25 – Pick Life, the group of area churches we participate in as a response to the presence of two abortion doctors in Pickerington, is sponsoring a prayer vigil at 5 p.m. in front of the doctors’ office (location available at the link). If you are not already committed to one of the VBS outreaches scheduled for later this evening, please join members of WHC in prayerfully protesting the opening of this office.
Wednesday, June 26 -
Vacation Bible School begins at 7 p.m.! I am believing for 1,000 children
to be here learning to trust God for everything with “No Limits.” If
you haven’t signed up to be a helps minister yet, rest assured that we need
you! Sign up
here and be sure to register your kids at one of the kiosks you use to check
in your children at Kid Harvest.
Also,
Healing School will continue at 7 p.m. in the tabernacle.
If you can’t join us in person, the service will be streamed live online from
the tabernacle via
World Harvest Live.
And to stay connected:
- Our prison ministry to Marion Correctional Institution is seeking new volunteers.
The team leaves WHC at 4 p.m. on the first Monday of each month to conduct a teaching
service. If you’re available, send your contact information
here so you can receive an application for a state background check.
- Jack Johnson Field and the HPS weight room are open to the congregation from 6-8
a.m. and 6-8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. God will honor the commitment we make
to our physical wholeness! Bring your family for an enjoyable social time as well.
- We are reading through the Bible together again in 2013 - with a new plan that I
believe will make it easier for you to participate! Readings are scheduled during
the weekdays; on the weekends, you can take a break or catch up if you need to.
Click here to access each day's readings electronically, and
here to download a copy of the entire year's reading plan you can download
and print. And, if you're not receiving a daily email of prayer directives from
me, you can
sign up here; each of those emails includes a link to that day's readings.
Or, you can receive a paper copy from an usher at a worship service.
- If you're active with social media, be sure to follow this great
local church on Facebook and
Twitter. You can also become
