Friend
Does it seem to you as though the world rushes to get summer over with? I know of some teachers in our congregation who will be back to work next week. And most school districts in this area begin classes long before Labor Day. If you don’t have school-age children, the early start to fall may catch you by surprise.
While on our campus we are preparing for the beginning of both Valor Christian College and Harvest Preparatory School later this month, getting ready for fall is also taking place in other areas. Specifically, we’ll be re-booting our Life Groups in September, and we’ve begun training new leaders in anticipation of many of you becoming part of this exciting new “in-reach” for the people of World Harvest Church.
A Life Group is a fellowship of eight to 20 people meeting in individual homes to pray, worship and socialize together. That can be hard to do in a large church, and that’s why I want you to seriously consider joining a group if you haven’t already. New groups are forming across central Ohio, meeting on several nights of the week to accommodate diverse schedules.
Increasingly, Christian leaders are emphasizing the importance of small groups as an important element of the growth of individual believers. Watch for your opportunity to join a Life Group! Click here to find a group near where you live or work, or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312.
Here are this week’s announcements - please save or print this e-mail and refer to it throughout the week.
Today, Wednesday, August 3 - The “We are Family” series continues tonight at 7 p.m. Be sure and join us! This week’s events include:
- An adult lesson in the tabernacle.
- Next Harvest Youth service in the MAC Café - games, fun and fellowship.
- “Summer Splash” for Kid Harvest children’s ministry. Bring your children to Murphy Hall, and bring a change of clothes and a towel to prepare them for some WET summer fun!
If you can’t join us in person, the adult teaching will be streamed online via World Harvest Live, starting at 7 p.m.
Sunday, August 7 - Join us for worship at both 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. If it’s impossible for you to join us in person, log on to World Harvest Live to watch the service as it happens or to see the archived version later.
After the morning service, you can sign up for youth football (entering 1st-6th grades) in the East Foyer. If you want your boy or boys to play on a youth football team, come to the table there for more information or contact Fred Parker at (614) 537-1411 or fparker32@hotmail.com.
Don’t forget pre-service prayer at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the A-Wing Hospitality Room (the old Breakthrough studio).
Tuesday, August 9 - Pastor Larry Stacy will be training new Life Group Leaders at 7 p.m. in the MAC Conference Room.
Next Wednesday, August 10 - Our “We Are Family” midweek series continues at 7 p.m. Plan to join us at the Columbus campus or on World Harvest Live. Next Harvest Youth meets as usual in the MAC Café, and Kid Harvest will gather in Murphy Gym.
And to stay connected:
- Next Sunday morning, Aug. 14, Pastor Clint Brown will be joining us for worship! He has already preached at WHC twice this year, and the feedback I have received from you has been tremendous. I want you to begin praying about who you can invite to join you to hear Pastor Clint bring the Word of God to us on the 14th.
- Mark your calendars for the evening of Friday, Sept. 2. Harvest Preparatory School’s football team will be playing its first home game of the season, and we’ll celebrate with a tailgate party beginning at 6 p.m. It will be a great way to kick off the holiday weekend!
- Please continue to be in prayer for the Apex Summer Tour. Remnant and I will be on the road throughout the summer bringing the Gospel to churches across the nation. I am excited about what I have seen among the people who have come to our services so far and I expect it to continue!
- Be part of my prayer army! There are two ways to participate:
- If you haven’t already completed a prayer ministry sign-up card during a service, click here to complete an online version of the form. This will give us permission to send you my daily e-mail of prayer directives. If you’ve already completed a card but have yet to receive the e-mails, check your spam folder. We’ve had some reports of these e-mails getting caught in spam filters. Then, make sure to allow the e-mails in the future.
- You can also text “WHC” to 292929 to receive urgent, time-sensitive prayer requests on your wireless device. I’m very appreciative of your prayers last week, for example, when we texted from the road that we had mechanical issues with the buses for our tour. They were resolved and we made it to the church on time!
- Our emergency medical services (EMS) ministry is in need of qualified servants. If you are a registered nurse, nurse’s assistant, physician’s assistant, EMT or paramedic and can support any of our services, we need you! If you’re interested, stop by the EMS section near the south entrance to the tabernacle before the service or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312. And, if you can donate a wheelchair to the ministry, call the Pastoral Care office. We’ll gladly put it to use!
- If you’re active with social media, please consider becoming one of my followers on Twitter and joining my Facebook fan page. You can also follow Joni on Twitter here.
- If you or a family member are hospitalized, please send us an e-mail with the details or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312, so we can minister to you. Recent changes in federal privacy laws prevent the hospitals from sharing this information with us.
Joni and I appreciate all you do for this church, and thank you for being a part of it. See you soon!
Yours for the Harvest,
Pastor Rod Parsley
