Friend

One week from today, hundreds of students - mostly young people, others young at heart, all with a clear call to turn the world upside down for Jesus Christ - will begin classes at Valor Christian College. And, for the first time ever, they will convene in the former Breakthrough building, now known as Canfield Hall in honor of our beloved senior elder, Bill Canfield.

These students have come from across the nation and around the world to receive an education, but also an impartation. They want what we have here, and occasionally hold as common. This coming weekend is our opportunity to quickly immerse our Valor Christian College students in what it means to become part of this soul-winning ministry. I hope you’ll join us in welcoming these anointed men and women into our church family.

Here are this week’s announcements - please save or print this e-mail and refer to it throughout the week.

Today, Wednesday, August 10 - The “We are Family” series continues tonight at 7 p.m. Be sure and join us! This week’s events include:
  • An adult lesson in the tabernacle.
  • Next Harvest Youth service in the MAC Café - games, fun and fellowship.
  • “Summer Splash” for Kid Harvest children’s ministry. Bring your children to Murphy Hall, and bring a change of clothes and a towel to prepare them for some WET summer fun!
If you can’t join us in person, the adult teaching will be streamed online via World Harvest Live, starting at 7 p.m.

Also, Pastor Larry Stacy will be training new Life Group leaders at 7 p.m. in the A-Wing Hospitality Room (a.k.a. the old Breakthrough studio). If you’re interested in hosting a Life Group beginning in September, please join him there.

Sunday, August 14 - Join us for worship at both 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. In the morning, come to the tabernacle at 9 a.m. to pray for the students and the new school year. An old friend and special guest, Pastor Clint Brown, will be joining us.

At 7 p.m. Jake Hamilton from Jesus Culture will be ministering in concert. I want us to fill the tabernacle with youth, men and women hungry for more of God’s presence! Be sure to invite your friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers to this dynamic event. Pre-service prayer begins at 6 p.m. in the A-Wing Hospitality Room (the old Breakthrough studio).

Also at 7 p.m., Kid Harvest will have a very special service in Murphy Gym for all students entering 1st through 5th grades. The service will feature an illustrated sermon, “All we like puppets have gone a-string.”

If it’s absolutely impossible for you to join us in person, log on to World Harvest Live to watch each service as it happens or to see the archived versions later.

Monday, August 15 - If your schedule permits, please join us in introducing a new tradition, Convocation, to Valor. We’ll gather near the dormitories at 9 a.m. to encourage the students as the faculty escorts them to the tabernacle for an inspirational program. Many of these students will be away from home for the first time, and this will be a great way to demonstrate to them that they have the support of a loving family while they are at school.

Next Wednesday, August 17 - Please join me in prayer for Valor’s students, faculty and staff as a new semester begins.

Our “We Are Family” midweek series continues at 7 p.m. Plan to join us at the Columbus campus or on World Harvest Live. Next Harvest Youth meets as usual in the MAC Café, and Kid Harvest will gather in Murphy Gym.

New Life Group leader training begins at 7 p.m. in the A-Wing hospitality room (former Breakthrough studio).

And to stay connected:
  • There is still time for the school-age children in your life to attend Harvest Preparatory School! Classes begin Aug. 22. We’re accepting enrollments for age 3 through 12th grade. Call the school at (614) 382-1111 or go here for more information.
  • Mark your calendars now for an extraordinary 72-hour weekend of revival Friday-Sunday, Oct. 14-16, as we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles together. Three amazing revivalists will join me in preaching during the weekend - Perry Stone, Damon Thompson and Donnie McClurkin. Plan now to be a part of it!
  • We’ll be tailgating together to welcome the Harvest Preparatory School home football season Friday, Sept. 2. Join us before the game against Columbus Africentric kicks off at 7:30 for a great time of fellowship. It will provide an outstanding start to your Labor Day weekend!
  • Life Groups re-boot the week of Sept. 12, with new teachings beginning the week of Sept. 19! We will be studying the book of Acts together with materials from Valor’s External Studies program. Life Groups are a great way to connect with new friends and re-connect with old ones. Click here to find a group near where you live or work, or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312. If you are willing to host or lead a Life Group, call Pastor Larry Stacy at (614) 837-1990, ext. 530.
  • Please continue to be in prayer for the Apex Summer Tour. Remnant and I will be on the road throughout the summer bringing the Gospel to churches across the nation. I am excited about what I have seen among the people who have come to our services so far and I expect it to continue!
  • Be part of my prayer army! There are two ways to participate:
    • If you haven’t already completed a prayer ministry sign-up card during a service, click here to complete an online version of the form. This will give us permission to send you my daily e-mail of prayer directives. If you’ve already completed a card but have yet to receive the e-mails, check your spam folder. We’ve had some reports of these e-mails getting caught in spam filters. Then, make sure to allow the e-mails in the future.
    • You can also text “WHC” to 292929 to receive urgent, time-sensitive prayer requests on your wireless device. I’m very appreciative of your prayers last week, for example, when we texted from the road that we had mechanical issues with the buses for our tour. They were resolved and we made it to the church on time!
  • Our emergency medical services (EMS) ministry is in need of qualified servants. If you are a registered nurse, nurse’s assistant, physician’s assistant, EMT or paramedic and can support any of our services, we need you! If you’re interested, stop by the EMS section near the south entrance to the tabernacle before the service or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312. And, if you can donate a wheelchair to the ministry, call the Pastoral Care office. We’ll gladly put it to use!
  • If you’re active with social media, please consider becoming one of my followers on Twitter and joining my Facebook fan page. You can also follow Joni on Twitter here.
  • If you or a family member are hospitalized, please send us an e-mail with the details or call the Pastoral Care office at (614) 837-1990, ext. 312, so we can minister to you. Recent changes in federal privacy laws prevent the hospitals from sharing this information with us.
Joni and I appreciate all you do for this church, and thank you for being a part of it. See you soon!

Yours for the Harvest,

Rod Parsley
