Patience Is Love’s Attribute
Therefore be patient, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Notice how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until he receives the early and late rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is drawing near.
– James 5:7-8
In the biblical sense, patience requires an entirely new attitude toward life and toward our dealings with others. As we face the difficulties of life, we must remember that as born-again believers our faith is rooted in the belief that we will spend eternity walking heaven’s streets of gold.
Once we realize every situation on earth is just temporary, it changes our attitude. No matter what difficulties life throws our way, we can persevere and endure. Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he is tried, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him (James 1:12).
Patience toward others is grounded in the fruit of love – the kind of love that puts others’ needs above your own and does not seek personal gain.
Holy Spirit, cultivate love’s attribute of patience in me today. No matter what is thrown my way, let patience abound.
