Monday, April 14th - God’s love on open display
Dear Friend,
Today is DAY 2 of Passover, Holy Week, and our countdown to Resurrection Sunday.
Every year leading up to Easter, countless churches around the world will remind their congregations our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is no longer
in His tomb.
Our Savior emerged, defeating Death once and for all, allowing us to shout the words of 1 Corinthians 15:55:
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The day Jesus conquered Death was the apex of God’s patient, brilliantly executed redemptive plan, and His
new life
became a manifested reality to all mankind.
Today though, I want to step back a few days before Resurrection Morning and talk to you about the central message of Christianity – the Cross
of Jesus Christ.
Because there is no Christianity without the Cross.
I want to give you an up close, personal look at the overwhelming wonder of a God who loves
you so much that He refused to live without you.
The Cross is the hinge upon which the door of all human history swings; it is the pivot around which all the events of the ages have revolved;
it’s the fulcrum of God’s grand and glorious lever 4,000 years in the crafting, where one man, on one tree, on one Friday pried a fallen
world from Satan’s diabolical grasp.
The Cross: rough and rugged it was, mangled and mean. It’s there at the intersection of those two rough, hewn wooden beams that you and I can
look in horrified wonder upon the raw ferocity of God’s unfailing love. The Cross is the hallmark of an authentic, life-giving gospel. Never
before, never since has such love been on open display as it was there on Calvary’s tree.
At Calvary, the ground of all being shook; the source of all life trembled; and
the heart of all love burst open.
Your Christian life and mine make not one ounce of sense unless, in the very depth of our being we believe that Jesus loves us.
His plea to us is, “
Come and let me love you as you are, not as you should be, because you’re never going to be as you should be.”
This is the unfailing love of our Father, expressed through the supreme gift and sacrifice of His only begotten Son, nailed by tempered spikes through
tortured skin, into splintered wood, announcing, “I LOVE
YOU!”
Hear God say to you today from the Cross:
“I loved YOU yesterday; I’ll love YOU today; I’ll love YOU tomorrow; I’ll love YOU forever. Through every storm and
tempest, I’ll love YOU; through every struggle and temptation, I love YOU; in life and living, in death and dying, I love YOU.”
How much?
And He stretched out His arms wide and allowed them to be nailed to that beam and shouted, “I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH!”
Well, that was Friday. It ended. Christ’s limp and lifeless, beaten, battered and bruised body was lowered into a chiseled shelf in a rock-hewn
tomb. A massive stone disc was rolled across the opening. The sun was gone, and God’s Son was
gone.
I don’t believe we can ever truly comprehend the magnitude of what God did for you and me on Calvary’s Cross; because, you see, the sinless,
spotless Blood of the Lamb of God accomplished so much more than washing away our sin. It also paid the price for
every need you will ever face.
- Sickness? It must answer to His Cross.
- Fear? It stands in fear itself at the mention of His Cross.
- Lack …
- Addiction…
- Broken relationships …
- … Jesus paid for your total peace and restoration at the Cross!
